Now you need to get it printed! So, who do you trust to turn all your hard work into print? The printer with cheapest price!!!

There are plenty of details to be sorted out. The number of pages, printing in colour or black & white, type of paper, paper weight, type of binding, size of the book, number of copies, etc.

And don’t forget about the design, it’s one of the most important considerations of all (cover design and title, page style and layout, fonts). Most of us do judge a book by the cover so don’t leave it to just anyone. Not only will all these things impact how your book looks and feels, but they can also affect the readability and the sales results (if you intend on selling your book).

The last thing you want is for your dream to be destroyed by making the wrong decisions at this critical stage.

Avoid the traps and make getting your book printed as easy as 1, 2, 3.

A hardcover is often an impressive-looking book that stands out on people’s bookshelves. Many readers like to choose hardcovers because they are more prestigious and stand the test of time. A hardcover offers your readers a tactile option that feels great in their hands, along with that wonderful smell of a new book.
Of course, another reason for choosing a hardcover is because it can help it to stand out in crowded book shops. Your book will be one of many being sold, and you want to make sure it is eye-catching and draws the attention of your potential readers.

Graphics Unlimited is here to help you with the whole process. We can help you create a visually appealing cover for your book to improve the chances of it being chosen and bought. Despite the saying, never judge a book by its cover, the truth is that many people do, which is why you want to choose an experienced and skilled company to work with.

We are also here for all the other choices that you will need to make, including the layout and paper choices for your pages.

Why Choose a Soft Cover for Your Book?

When you have decided that a softcover is the right choice for your book, the decisions do not end there. There is no need to worry as we are still here to help. We can give you advice on the type of paper you want your book printed on, as well as the layout.

One of the most important decisions that you will need to make will be about the cover of your book. When you go into a book shop, you are met with thousands of books all competing for your attention. That is why it is essential to get the cover of your book right so that it stands out and piques the interest of others.

At Graphics Unlimited, we can provide you with the whole package. Our designers will work with you to create an eye-catching front cover that perfectly represents your book. We understand how important this is to you, which is why we always deliver our printing and graphic design services with due care and attention.

Softcover book printing, also known as paperbacks, is usually chosen for publications such as novels and self-help books. It allows many pages to be bound together and offers your reader a pleasant experience.

While you can also have these types of publications bound with a hardcover, a softcover is usually a cheaper alternative.

If you have questions about whether you should choose a softcover for your book, speak to us. We are always more than happy to help and share our expertise.

Why Have Your Book Spiral Bound?

As spiral bound book printers, we are here to help you see your project through to fruition. It is not just the printing that we do, but we can also help you with the design of your book.

Firstly, let us have a look at why you might want to consider wire coil bound book printing for your project.

Spiral bounding means that your book can open flat, and it can be folded back on itself for ease of reading. For this reason, it works particularly well for non-fiction books where the user may need to focus on certain pages.

Wiro Bound Books

If your user needs your book to stay open without force or bending of the spine, then spiral bounding is the perfect option. So, whether it is a music score or a set of instructions, your readers will not become frustrated by a book that keeps closing.

It is effective for publications such as reference books, recipe books, instruction manuals and reports, among many more. What’s more, with spiral binding, it is easier to add dividers into the book for ease of access.

When you come to our printing company in Melbourne, we will give you advice about the best type of binding for your book. You can rely on our integrity, and with years of experience behind us, you can trust us to know what is right for your book.

Frequently Asked Questions
--Invisible--
What is the difference between hard cover & soft cover binding?

There are a number of different binding methods used to hold books together, each has advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to understand which method is most suitable for your book.

Below is a list of terminology with some of the other names it is also known by.

Case Bound – also referred to as hardcover.
Perfect Bound – also referred to as paperback or softcover.
Burst Bound – this is a variation of perfect bound and is stronger and longer-lasting.
Saddle Stitch – also known as stapling on the spine (or fold).
Spiral Bound – one continuous plastic-coated wire coil wound through holes. Ideal for books that you want to lay flat when open.
Wiro Bound – also known as wire binding and is similar to spiral binding but is double looped wire pressed over holes.
Padding – Glued on one or more edges of a stack of paper. Ideal for note pads where you want to tear off sheets individually as they are used.

This is not a complete list of all the binding methods available.

Does Graphics Unlimited do editing?

Graphics Unlimited is not a publishing company or editor in the broader sense, so will not be able to edit your novel. However, we do have the capability to edit/change or correct your design files if you want to make last-minute changes before printing commences. We also provide a professional design service, so can do the complete layout and design of your book. There are many of our clients who provide Word files and leave the design work to our graphic designers.

What is an ISBN number – do I need one?

The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a numeric commercial book identifier that is intended to be unique. An ISBN is assigned to each separate edition and variation (except reprintings) of a publication. For more information go to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Standard_Book_Number

They are a must-have if you intend to sell your book commercially. You should also consider having a bar code as well.

What is the difference between a brochure and a booklet or book?

In reality, not much. A brochure can be a single sheet which is also known as a flyer or can be a single folded sheet forming 4 pages. Or can even be multiple folded sheets that are saddle stitched together. Personally, I think a brochure becomes a booklet as soon as there is any binding involved. Similarly, what constitutes a book, rather than a booklet. The number of pages? To my knowledge, there are no definitive specifications so what it’s called is really up to you. One important point to remember though is when you’re specifying the number of pages in your book or booklet that you count each side of each sheet as a page. (A single sheet of paper is 2 pages, a 48-page book or booklet has 24 sheets, even if some of the pages are blank).

Is there a standard size for books?

No. Whilst some sizes are more economical to print, sometimes it’s finding a balance between the size and the number of pages in your book. Larger pages fit more content so fewer pages are required, but the size of the book can also affect its visual appeal. The use of white space on the page is also important to consider. We recommend having a discussion with your graphic designer.

Why is the cover design important?

Cover design is one of the most important aspects to be considered. Even if you can supply the finished design for your book, we recommend having the cover professionally designed. If you intend to sell your book, the cover can be the difference between your book being picked up or left on the shelf. You only get one chance to make a good first impression and books are judged by their cover.
